YSRC issues notices to Chittoor deputy mayor, 3 corporators
Tirupati: Fissures have developed within the ruling YSR Congress party in the Chittoor Municipal Corporation. It has led to show-cause notices being issued to Chittoor deputy mayor Rajesh Kumar Reddy and three corporators, all belonging to YSRC.
Controversy erupted during the municipal council meeting on Wednesday, which discussed the budget allocation of Rs 6.55 crore for three road projects. Further, Rs 30 lakh had been earmarked for carrying out development in each division.
Deputy mayor Rajesh Kumar Reddy and corporators Gaddam Ramana and Srikanth, along with other colleagues, objected saying the allocation is meagre in effectively taking up both road and drainage works.
This led to tension within the ruling party members and mayor S. Amuda adjourned the proceedings. The protesting deputy mayor and corporators immediately penned a letter to the municipal commissioner expressing their dissent over the proposed budget allocation.
Matters escalated when local MLA Arani Srinivasulu, Mudaliyar Corporation chairman Bullet Suresh, mayor Amuda, and deputy mayor Chandrasekhar brought the goings on to the attention of minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy on Thursday.
Sources within YSRC party said Peddireddy immediately spoke to district party president K.R.J. Bharat, directing him to identify the corporators who created the turmoil during the city council meeting.
Following this, Bharat issued show-cause notices to four members, including deputy mayor Rajesh Kumar Reddy. They have been asked to provide a written explanation for their actions within four days.
