AP Utilities Take up Power Restoration on War Footing

Vijayawada: Electricity authorities in Andhra Pradesh have started taking steps on a war footing to restore power supply in cyclone-affected areas of districts including Nellore, Guntur, Prakasam, Krishna, Chittoor, Kurnool, West and East Godavari, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram.

Even as the Michaung storm is continuing, special chief secretary (Energy) K. Vijayanand held a review meeting on Tuesday to assess damage caused to power infrastructure due to the cyclone. He has formed special teams, which are moving into the affected districts to take up power restoration works.

Vijayanand said Krishnapatnam units 2 and 3 have tripped owing to adverse weather conditions. The lines connected to 132 KV SS Chendodu have been disconnected as a precautionary measure because of water logging at the station. Around seven 220 KV feeders, six 132 KV feeders and 100 MVA PTRs have been affected.

The Special CS underlined that there has been no loss of load associated with the tripping, except Chendodu. Engineers have been deployed to patrol breakdown feeders. The 132 / 33 KV SS Chendodu has been taken into service by charging the 132 KV Guduru feeder.

Vijayanand pointed out that majority of substations in Nellore district are heavily water logged. Restoration works will hall be taken up on a war footing as soon as the water recedes. “As of now, the system is well-managed,” he stated.

APGENCO managing director K.V.N. Chakradharbabu informed the special chief secretary that steps have been taken for coal feeding at Krishnapatnam units 1 and 2, and arrangements are being made to restore power generation.

APSPDCL chairman and MD K. Santosh Rao said in circles of Nellore, Tirupati and Kadapa, three EHT substations, 43 33/11 KV substations, 54 33 KV feeders, 64 33 KV poles, 251 11 KV poles, and 85 DTRs have been restored to normalcy. According to an estimate, 1,119 villages in 46 mandals and six towns have been affected. Damages have been assessed at ₹12.01 crore.

While explaining the damages, I. Prudhvi Tej, CMD, APEPDCL, said in circles of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry and Eluru three 33/11 KV substations, 23 33 KV feeders, four 33 KV poles, 90 11 KV poles and 68 DTRs have been restored to normalcy. Around 153 villages in three mandals had been affected, with the damage assessed at ₹1.27 crore.

APCPDCL chairman and managing director J. Padma Janardhana Reddy said in circles of Vijayawada, Guntur, CRDA and Ongole, 64 33/11 KV substations, 46 33 KV feeders, eight 33 KV poles, 109 11 KV poles and three DTRs have been restored to normalcy. 361 villages in 25 mandals and eight towns have been affected. Damage has been assessed at ₹1.8 crore.
