Grand Kalyana Mahotsavam for Komuravelli Mallikarjuna Swamy
Warangal: Devotees celebrated the Kalyana Mahotsavam of Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy and His Consorts in a grand manner at the Kalyana Mandapam of the temple near Thota Baavi in Komuravelli of Cheriyala mandal in Jangaon district on Sunday.
On behalf of the state government, endowments minister Konda Surekha, accompanied by transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar, presented silk clothes and Muthyala Thalambralu to the presiding deities of the temple.
The Kalyanam of Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Kalyanam with Golla Kethalamma and Balija Medalamma started in the early hours with the Dishi Kumbam being performed by Oggu priests in a traditional manner.
Mahadeva family members performed the Kanyadanam for brides Kethalamma and Medallamma. Members of Padiganna family received the Kanyadanam on behalf of bridegroom Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy.
Devotees thronged the temple in large numbers from various corners of Telangana, apart from Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Orissa to witness the celestial wedding, which is performed every year on the last Sunday of Margashira Masam.
The Kalyana Mahotsavam of Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy marks the beginning of the three-month jatara and Brahmothsavalu, which will conclude on April 8 with Agni Gundams at the temple premises.
Komuravelli Mallanna temple is the only Shaivite temple in the country, where the Jatara is held for three months.
Jangaon BRS party MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, Medchal MLA Malla Reddy and Siddipet district collector Prashanth J. Patil were among those present.
