Our govt has come closer to the people: Uttam

Hyderabad: Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy expressed satisfaction with the performance of the one-month Congress government and highlighted its commitment to transparency, accountability and efficient governance.

"We have come closer to the people," he said while emphasising the government's efforts to establish a strong connection with the public, for whom ministers and officials were readily available. "We have demonstrated how public governance ought to be to bring about a positive change."

Uttam Kumar Reddy claimed that the people perceived a sense of new independence. He affirmed the government’s commitment to deliver the kind of governance that met the peoples’ expectations.

He said that he was regularly holding review meetings to take stock of the performance of the irrigation and civil supplies departments.

"We reviewed the Kaleshwaram project and the damage to the Medigadda barrage. We have informed the people and the media about the facts. We have urged the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court to appoint a judge to probe the Kaleshwaram project irregularities," he said.

" Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and I went to Delhi and appealed to the Union water resources ministry to grant national status for the Palamuru Rangareddy project. All measures are in place to provide irrigation water to farmers," he added.

He informed that the civil supplies department has accumulated debts of over Rs 58,000 crore due to the BRS government’s maladministration. The rice that was being supplied to the poor was of inferior quality and not edible.

"Despite spending Rs 39 per kg, more than 70 per cent of rice was diverted for other purposes at Rs 5 per kg. We are taking measures to make the rice useful to people," he said.
