Puducherry: A 50-year-old daily wage earner on Monday allegedly committed suicide in his house near here, after his wife declined to give him money to purchase arrack, police said.
The worker said to be a habitual drunkard had a quarrel with his wife over money for the brew, they said. The woman who also ekes out her livelihood as a labourer allegedly refused to part with her hard earned money to be spent on alcohol.
Unable to resist the thought of taking the brew the daily wage earner rushed into a room in his house, locked it from inside and committed suicide by hanging, police said.
The woman with the help of her neighbours broke open the door and found her husband hanging from the ceiling using her sari. A case has been registered.
