Millet sales counters set up in railway stations
HYDERABAD: In their quest to encourage people to develop the habit of eating healthy food, railway authorities have set up exclusive ‘One station one product’ counters, which will sell millet-based breakfast items like snacks, including chikkis, at Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Begumpet stations.
According to railway officials, millets have been an integral part of the Indian diet for centuries together. In addition to numerous health benefits, they are good for the environment as they require minimal water. This is also in sync with the UN’s decision to declare 2023 as the ‘International year of millets’.
Meanwhile, officials said that sales counters in all the three stations have been getting very good response by the day. Stall owners are happy as they are getting bulk orders from different places.
An emergency care center had been set up on platform 10 in Secunderabad station. This will offer first-aid medical assistance to passengers having valid tickets. The 24x7 services will be free of cost and there will be an ambulance as a standby.
