Rain wets the surface, rivers await monsoon in Telangana and AP
Hyderabad: The recent rain has wet the dry beds of major rivers and their tributaries in TS and AP, according to irrigation officials. Once the monsoon rain falls, the water will reach the reservoir faster, than when the regions are dry.
The data on reservoir storage showed that due to local rain a little water had flowed into all projects on the Krishna by Monday.
The Almatti dam in Karnataka got 271 cusecs, Narayanapur (1,582), Jurala (1,176), Srisailam (737), Tunga-bhadra (1,065) Nagar-junasagar (575) and the Prakasam Barrage 2,481 cusecs.
The fact that the projects got inflows showed that the river courses were wet and would facilitate flow of rainwater into the dams.
On the Godavari, the Dowaleswaram barrage near Rajahmun-dry got 1,286 cusecs due to rain in the catchment area.
However, there were no inflows reported at Sriramsagar, Nizamsagar and Singur in Telangana and Jaikwad in Maharashtra, but river course had become wet even at these places due to local rain.
According to Mr Ch Chittibabu, chief engineer, Srisailam and Rayalaseema projects, the Hagari experienced sudden floods due to local rain that resulted in the Sunkesula barrage across the Tungabhadra getting good inflows. the Handri, another tributary of the Tungabhadra, got good rains and due to which the Gajuladinne medium irrigation project got some water.
