APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University to offer remedial coaching
Thiruvananthapuram: APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University has decided to introduce remedial coaching for students who have failed to get promoted to third semester for want of minimum credits for the first and second semester B Tech examinations. This was because, of the 39,000 students who have completed the first and second semester of B Tech course from colleges affiliated to the university, 7,000 has not secured the minimum credits needed to get promoted.
Of them, 2,000 students have not passed even one paper at the B Tech examinations. This was despite the university’s decision to reduce the requirement of credit from 35 to 26 to register for the courses in the third semester.
Even after the relaxation, as there were a seizable number of students who were not able to fulfill even the relaxed requirement and have to appear for the end-semester examinations by discontinuing the studies for one academic year, it was felt that some form of remedial coaching is required for these students to clear the examinations, university pro vice-chancellor M Abdul Rahman told DC. Education Minister C Raveendranath has convened a meet on August 10 to identify various remedial coaching optio-ns suitable for students.
