Complaint Lodged by IAS Officer Jha Against Wife and Brother-in-law for Harassment

HYDERABAD: An IAS officer, Sandeep Kumar Jha, on Monday lodged a complaint with the Banjara Hills police against his wife Pallavi and brother-in-law, accusing them of harassing him mentally and physically.

Jha, a 2014 batch TS cadre IAS officer posted as joint secretary in the IT department, and Pallavi, a home-maker, had married in November 2011 in Korba, Chattisgarh. He alleged that since then Pallavi and her brother had been constantly harassing him mentally and physically after he refused to transfer his properties to her name.

Jha stated that Pallavi had recently threatened to file a complaint of domestic violence and dowry harassment against him after he refused to heed to their demands.

The Banjara Hills police registered three criminal cases in Crime No. 696/2023 under IPC Sections 386, 323 and 389 against Pallavi and her brother and began investigation.

Meanwhile, Pallavi filed a case against Jha from her native place in Darbhanga district, stating that he was engaging her in promiscuous sex and harassing her for dowry. The Chhattisgarh police had registered a case against Jha, a city police officer confirmed.

According to media reports, a local court in the Korba district had summoned Jha to appear in court after his wife accused him of assault and dowry harassment. Jha's wife had filed an initial complaint with the Korba superintendent of police (SP). Dissatisfied with the alleged inaction of the police, she sought assistance from the local court which ordered the Korba Civil Line police to file an FIR against Jha based on his wife's allegations, the media report stated.

“We recorded the officer's complaint and have started preliminary investigations,” the officer said.

“Based on the complaint we registered cases against Pallavi and others involved for extorting, threatening, putting a pressure for fear of death, putting a person in fear of accusation of an offence and causing hurt,” the officer said.

Pallavi and those who supported her at large, the police are making efforts to arrest them, police sources disclosed.
