Work starts on Koyilandy fire station
The fire station, a long demand of the people of Koyilandy, had not materialised for need of land.

KOZHIKODE: Ignoring the objections of the sports council, the work on the fire station has begun on the stadium building premises in Koyilandy. The fire station, a long-pending demand of the people of Koyilandy, had not materialized because of land. Several fire accidents in and around Koyilandy strengthened the demand for the fire station. A recent fire mishap prompted local MLA K. Dasan and municipal authorities to scout for a temporary building and the rear of the stadium was chosen. But the sports council, which owns the stadium, resisted and an objection was sent to the municipality and Koyilandy Tahasildar.
“It’s not an excuse that the fire station would be a temporary set up and be shifted to permanent premises soon. The stadium is meant for sport purposes only,” a sports council executive member said. The work of the fire station was inaugurated on August 20 by MLA K. Dasan and the ground leveling work is going on. “The construction would not do any harm to the stadium. We cannot afford to miss the fire station this time as it has been a long pending demand. The Municipality has communicated with the sports council and has alleviated their concerns,” said Adv K. Sathyan, Koyilandy Mucipality Chairman. Sources said that mediation talks between the Municipality and sports council was being held to settle the issue.
