TD, YSRC gear up for civic polls
Guntur: After registering victory in the Nandyal bypolls and Kakinada municipal elections, the TD and Opposition YSR Congress are eyeing the civic polls in Guntur, which have been pending for the last five years. The election heat is already being felt what with the YSRC holding meetings every alternate day in both the East and West constituencies.
With the civic polls pending for the last five years, people have been facing trouble in taking the civic issues to the notice of the government due to unavailability of elected representatives.
The GMC officials said court cases on merger of adjacent villages into the Guntur Municipal Corporation have delayed the election. Recently, the court cleared the way by ordering conducting elections to the GMC, including the merged villages.
The TD leaders, who are upbeat with the victory in the last two polls, are hoping to register a thumping victory in Guntur too.
However, the Opposition YSRC is highlighting the failure of the government in developing Guntur, despite its proximity to the Capital Amaravati.
On Sept. 5 and Sept. 6, the YSRC conducted Nava Ratnala Sabha at booth-level in Guntur to boost the morale of the cadre.
YSRC state secretary L. Appi Reddy said people are not happy with the TD government as it has allegedly failed to bring about any development in the city. He asked the YSRC cadre to highlight the failures of the TD at public meetings. He said that the Nava Ratna schemes announced by YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would have an impact on the public and urged the party men to campaign about the same.
YSRC East MLA Md Mustafa said Guntur city can be developed by bringing funds from the Centre. YSRC state secretary Kilari Rosaiah said their party was gearing up to win the mayor post.
