Training programme in anti-plagiarism software held at Osmania University

Hyderabad: The Dr B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Library and Human Capital Development Centre (HCDC), Osmania University, organised a training programme on the ‘User Awareness Workshop on the Use of Turnitin Anti-Plagiarism Software’ today at the e-Classroom, HCDC Office, OU Campus, on Wednesday.

The event aimed to benefit PG students, research scholars, and faculty members by teaching them how to utilise this software.

HCDC coordinator Dr P. Muralidhar Reddy briefed participants about the software, while Dr A.S. Chakravarthy, university librarian, mentioned that after installing the software, the submission of theses has drastically increased, as it checks 90 per cent of the worldwide database and also complies with UGC guidelines and university policies.

Prof. C.V. Ranjani, director, HCDC, emphasised that with a huge volume of information available, one needs to apply the right skills to maintain the integrity of reports.

Prof. B. Reddya Naik, OSD to VC, chief guest, said that in the digital era, the usage of the library, etc., requires checks and balances is paramount. "Once keywords are typed, there is a flow of abundant information and this is where checks need to be maintained," he said.

He added that one should come out of their comfort zone, put in their efforts, quote the citations of the authors as per the pedagogy and maintain academic integrity, which will ensure moral consciousness and contribute originality to the academic world.

There was also a live demonstration on the anti-plagiarism software, right from input of the report, generation and interpretation of the results.
