Vizag mayor at 'Krishnashtami' fete; tries hand at breaking dahi handi'
Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam mayor Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari participated in "Krishnashtami" festivities at the convention hall of Andhra University, on Beach Road here on Wednesday.
The mayor tried her hand at breaking the traditional ‘dahi handi’ at the programme which was organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.
“Hindus celebrate Shri Krishna Janmashtami in a very sacred manner and worship Lord Krishna with devotion. This day is called “Krishnashtami”, and also “Gokulashtami” or “Ashtami Rohini”,” Venkata Kumari said at the event, which was called “Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum”.
“In Shravanam month, fruits, ginger, butter, jaggery and curd are mixed and offered to Lord Krishna. Various songs and kirtans are sung as Lord Krishna’s cradle is rocked,” she said.
