Hyderabad: Furniture Store Gutted after Fire Engulfs Multi storey Building

Hyderabad: A fire broke out in a multi-storey commercial building abutting the KPHB Metro Rail station on Friday night. A furniture store, a gift store and other shops in the building were gutted, police said.

Passersby noticed the fire and alerted fire and police. Fire tenders from Kukatpally, Jeedimetla, Sanathnagar and Madhapur were deployed to the blazing building but the fire could not be controlled due to the presence of combustible material in the furniture store.

As a precautionary measure, officials got all shops closed in a 100-metre radius of the affected building. The intensity of the fire was so severe that heat was felt in the Metro Rail station. Services were interrupted for up to 30 mins.

Initially, Metro Rail staff pulled out their fire fighting equipment and poured water on the platforms towards Kukatpally and on the staircases. They also closed the stairs for public movement.

The fire incident also resulted in a traffic jam on the busy NH.

Prima facie, no persons were caught in side the store, as it happened around the closing time. Officials also disconnected power supply in the main lines passing by the mishap site.

D. Venkatesh, SHO, KPHB police, said the fire fighting was continuing. DFO Kukatpally P Giridhar Reddy said that they had contained the fire from spreading to other shops and were working on containing fire in the building.
