Taming Kalaburagi rowdies with haircut
Kalaburagi: To curb rowdy activities in the district, including Kalaburagi city, where it was on the rise, the Kalaburagi police on Monday initiated strong measures, including humiliating the rowdy elements, who are mostly youth, by cutting off their fancy hairstyles after parading them.
Supported by IGP Alok Kumar, Kalaburagi Superintendent of Police Shashikumar has declared them rowdy elements, invoking provisions of the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA), allowing the police to shoot at them at sight.
In view of the Tipu Jayanti celebration on Novemeber 10, which has become controversial, Mr Shahshikumar ordered that all the rowdies in the district be taken into preventive custody and brought to the district police ground here for parading them on Monday.
On noticing that some of the rowdies had sported fancy hairstyles and also beards, Mr Shahshikar ordered their hair be cut off to send out a strong message.
Immediately barbers were summoned to the police parade ground and the rowdies’ hair was chopped off with a stern warning by Mr Shahshikumar that he will also get their “tails cut to size” if they resorted to goondaism again.
