RAHAMAHENDRAVARAM: Rahamahendravaram MP Margani Bharat has said the riverside city will be accorded ‘Heritage City’ status soon and all city beautification works will be completed by end of December this year.
The YSRC MP took out a procession in the city on Friday to mark completion of three years of “Praja Sankalpa Yatra” during which Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, then the opposition leader, went on a 3,864-kilometre padayatra throughout the state.
Margani Bharat urged CM Jagan to release Rs. 200 crore for developing historic Rahamahendravaram as Heritage City. He said the Union government will also be handing over the Havelock Bridge to the state government, which would then be developed as a good “tourism spot”. He said efforts are also being made for declaring Rahamahendravaram as a Smart City.
The MP said a single tender will be invited for construction of six flyovers at Diwancheruvu, Lalacheruvu, Morampudi, Vemagiri, Kadiam, Jonnada and Undrajavaram (West Godavari). He disclosed that the Chief Minister is planning to sanction 30 lakh houses to the poor but opposition Telugu Desam was creating hurdles for the same. Former MLA Rowthu Surya Prakasa Rao and others were present in the procession taken out by the YSRC MP.
Meanwhile, MLAs belonging to Kurnool district have also taken out a padayatra to mark Jagan Mohan Reddy’s successful completion of three-year-long padayatra. Kurnool MLA M. A. Hafeez Khan vowed to develop Kurnool city as a model for other cities in the state by implementing a master plan. Hafeez Khan and other party activists garlanded a statue of former chief minister Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy at Dharmapeta in the city on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the MLA said Jagan Mohan Reddy has fulfilled all his promises made during his padayatra. As part of it, Kurnool will also be developed into a beautiful city by taking up many developmental activities like widening of roads, permanent structure for drinking water and underground drainage system.
