Stalin writes to Jaishankar
CHENNAI: Chief Minister M K Stalin urged the Union External Affair Minister S Jaishankar to take up the issue relating to the arrest of 15 fishermen from the State, along with two mechanized boats through appropriate diplomatic channels and secure the release of the fishermen.
‘Despite our repeated requests, such incidents of apprehension have continued unabated, causing fear and anger among the entire fishing community who depend on their traditional fishing grounds in the Palk Bay area,’ Stalin said in his letter to Jaishankar.
Also soliciting his support for the release of the 100 fishing boats of Tamil Nadu fishermen that were in custody in Sri Lanka, Stalin said Sunday’s arrest and seizure of boats, bearing registration numbers IND-TN-10-MM-445 and IND-TN-10-MO-966, were done by the Sri Lankan Navy.
