HC Pulled Up TSPCB For Its Disregard to the Public Grievances

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday expressed anger at the TS Pollution Control Board for disregarding complaints lodged with it against the violation of the provisions drawn up for environmental protection.

A bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar said that several cases were brought to its notice about the lethargic attitude of the officials of the TSPCB in responding to the complaints. “If this will continue further, we will take action against the chairman and other officials of the TSPCB,” the court said.

The bench was dealing with a petition filed by a farmer complaining that even after several representations, the PCB had failed to take action against Sundar Ispat Ltd at Ippalapally of Keshampet mandal in Rangareddy district. He said the company’s plant was releasing pollutants into the air and water, causing irreparable loss to farmers whose land lay near it.

The farmers said they gave representation to the PCB last year and in September last. The authorities did not even inspect the site. Aggrieved by the inaction, one of the farmers approached the High Court.
