TMC Minister, Son Get I-T notices
KOLKATA: The Income Tax (I-T) department has summoned West Bengal correctional administration minister Akhil Giri and his son Suprakash Giri, also a Trinamul Congress leader, for questioning on November 13 in suspicion of having disproportionate assets.
The father-son duo got the notices three days after leader of the opposition Suvendu Adhikari claimed that the I-T department has found ₹5 crores of illegal wealth in an internal inquiry against the state minister who is a Trinamul Congress MLA of Ramnagar in East Midnapore.
Mr Adhikari, who is the Nandigram BJP MLA from the same district, also predicted that the minister would get a notice soon. Mr Giri was not available for comments. Suprakash, who is the vice chairman of Kanthi Municipality, however confirmed the notice.
He said on Tuesday, "The notice came to my email on Monday. I have been asked to appear in person or send my representative to submit some documents on November 13. I will offer my cooperation to the I-T department."
He however pointed out Mr Adhikari's forecast. "There should not be political interests at play behind the summons which came only after BJP leaders spoke about it," Mr Giri added. His father has already triggered a controversy by targeting governor CV Ananda Bose by alleging that he has evidence of his dirts.
