HC Directs GHMC and HMWS&SB to Resolve Water Contamination in Parsi Temple

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court directed officials of the GHMC and the HMWS&SB to stop the practice of passing the buck when it came to performing their duties and to resolve the complicated issue of contamination of the sacred well in the Parsi temple at Abids and drenching the premises housing the 119-year-old Bai Manekbai Nusserwanji Chenoy fire temple.

The court was dealing with a petition filed by Kerfegar Bomansha Atia, priest at the temple and a resident of Parsi Colony, who complained that authorities from the two wings were of civic body and water board were lethargic as regards resolving the sewerage problem, which had not only blocked the entire sewerage system in Parsi Colony compound but also contaminated the Parsis’ temple.

On an earlier hearing, the High Court had called for the status report, following which counsels for the civic body and the water board submitted that their officials had inspected the location and they were working on the issue.

Counsel for the petitioner submitted that the authorities are trying to force the expenditure on the temple towards which he furnished a communication.

After hearing both sides, the court issued an interim order directing GHMC and HMWS&SB to conduct a joint inspection supervised by the principal secretary (MA&UD) and report to the court on the next date of hearing on December 20.
