Thiruppavai to Replace Suprabhatam at Tirumala During Dhanurmasam
TIRUPATI: The daily ritual of awakening Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala Temple with Suprabhatam will be replaced by traditional Thiruppavai from December 17 in view of the holy Dhanurmasam.
The rendition of Thiruppavai for waking up the Lord will continue till January 14 next. Suprabhatam will resume from the following day.
Goda Thiruppavai Pasura Parayanam is a collection of about 30 pasurams (stanzas) authored by Andal Goda Devi in praise of Lord Venkateswara.
According to Puranas, the solar calendar is given importance during Dhanurmasam. Only spiritual activities are performed in temples during this month. There will be no regular Thomala Seva, where the Jeeyar Gosthi participates on normal days. During Dhanurmasam, a special silent Thomala is observed known as “Mooga Thomala”. One Astra is recited daily. The Ekantha Seva is performed to Sri Krishna idol instead of Bhoga Srinivasa.
Dhanurmasam is considered highly auspicious in Sri Vaishnava temples. It is observed with religious fervour at the Tirumala temple. Usually, the Sahasra Namarchana is done with Tulasi leaves. But during Dhanurmasam, it is performed with bel leaves, as per Vaikhanasa Bhrigu Samhita traditions.
