Ooty: The Southern Railway administration is on the verge of introducing chartered train and additional/special train services in the famed Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR), a World Heritage Site.
Highly placed sources in the railways confirmed this and added that a proposal on this regard is waiting the nod from higher officials.
The proposal is to offer the train for corporate (chartered trip) from Mettupalayam to Ooty. This is being done to further popularize NMR with the view to enhance revenue.
Likewise, there is also a proposal to introduce additional and special train services in NMR. This is to cater to the needs of tourists, who show keen interest to travel in NMR.
The idea behind these proposals is to further tap the tourism potential and make NMR more popular among tourists and other travelers, sources said. Fare for charted trains and other related information would be made available soon once the proposal gets the approval from the railway higher ups.
