MLC elections: TD alleges enrolment of non-graduate voters
Tirupati: Telugu Desam leaders have filed a complaint with Tirupati West division police on Wednesday seeking action against ruling YSR Congress party leaders for allegedly registering bogus votes in Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor graduates' constituency, for which election is scheduled on March 13.
Opposition leaders led by TD’s observer for MLC elections and Palakollu MLA Dr. Nimmala Rama Naidu lodged the complaint with the station house officer of West Division police station.
Speaking to reporters thereafter, Dr. Rama Naidu alleged that seeing the tide turning against it, ruling YSRC is trying to win the elections by utilising bogus votes. “Our party activists have discovered almost 7,000 bogus votes on the electoral rolls in Tirupati, based on forged graduation certificates. Despite presenting evidence in this regard to district collector, he has remained unconcerned," the TD observer alleged.
Separately addressing media here after reviewing the party’s poll prospects in March 13 elections with party leaders in Tirupati, TD AP unit president K. Atchannaidu alleged that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had transformed the pilgrim city into a land of bogus votes to rig MLC elections by roping in the services of village and ward secretaries and volunteers.
He declared: “TD will wage a legal battle in court to ensure punishment for non-graduate voters casting vote in elections, as well as erring volunteers and secretaries who have included their names in voters’ list, and gazetted officers who have certified that these disqualified persons are graduates."
Atchannaidu asked authorities in-charge of the election process to ensure that only graduates are allowed to vote. He stated that they are filing complaints with both State Election Commission as well as Central Election Commission in this regard.
