City celebrates Easter on a joyous note today
HYDERABAD: The resurrection of Jesus Christ is celebrated by the faithful with ‘He has risen’ greetings. Churches all over will hold vigil and sunrise services, to mark Easter Sunday. The vigil services will take place till midnight.
Rev. Raju Alex said “Anthony Poola will be serving Easter vigil service at St Mary’s basilica, Secunderabad. Easter is a great celebration for Christians as Christ rose on the third day after he was crucified on the cross. After 40 days of fasting, now they will be getting back to regular practice after a feast-like atmosphere at home.”
St George’s Anglican church will see the congregation marching inside the church at five in the morning for the sunrise service, Rev. P. Soloman Raj, presbytery in-charge of the church, said “the service will be held in Anglican. Basically it’s an old way of worship service and hymns are selected from that era. The congregation will be in full attendance.”
Rev G. Kiran Kumar, presbytery, Wesley church at Clock Tower in Secunderabad, said “along with the sunrise services, including the holy communion, the other services are in Telugu and English. The church has more than 10,000 members. Rev Joseph Kishor will be preaching during the Easter service.”
