Marine police save man from drowning

VIJAYAWADA: Marine police personnel saved a man from drowning in the sea off the Vodarevu beach in Bapatla district on Sunday.

SP Vakul Jindal said being a holiday, they expected more people at the beach. Hence they asked Kothapatnam Marine police comprising inspector K. Srinivasa Rao, head constable S. Prasad, constables K. Surendra and A. Naresh Babu, apart from home guards S. Srinivasa Rao and K. Nagaraju to be more vigilant.

Around 50 pilgrims from Nagavaram village in Krosuru mandal of Guntur district arrived at the Vodarevu beach and started enjoying themselves. Among them, 28-year-old Syed Rajavali got caught by a wave, which started pulling him in.

Constable Naresh and home guard Srinivasa Rao immediately responded by pulling Rajavali back to shore. Once ashore, he received first aid from inspector Srinivasa Rao. Seeing that Rajavali had recovered sufficiently, police counselled and handed him over to his family and relatives.

Vakul Jindal, who arrived at the spot, asked people to follow instructions at the beach and avoid getting into the sea during high tide.
