Farmers flood issues ignored in House: Kodanda

HYDERABAD: Despite representations given to the Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari to address the problems of farmers affected by the floods, the issue did not even figure in the State Cabinet meeting, said M. Kodanda Reddy of the Kisan Cell of the Congress. Neither Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao nor any other minister or official had given any assurance on the issue of compensating the farmers for their crop loss due to the rains and floods, he said.

On the issue of the Dharani portal, Kodanda Reddy said that despite giving repeated representations on the problems that farmers were facing, the Chief Minister was misrepresenting the issue and claiming that Congress wanted to shut it down. “We only want to come up with a better one. The CM who had not spoken a word on the Dharani portal is now talking about it after giving its maintenance to a defaulter company,” Kodanda Reddy said.

Recalling the incident at Abdullapurmet where a woman tahsildar was murdered by a farmer, he said, “KCR didn’t utter a word. We are seeking a survey of land and a title guarantee act as directed by the Centre. Instead of doing these, he is slinging mud at us, saying that we will bring a system of middlemen.”

He said it was shameful on the part of the government to claim that an increase in land prices indicated development. “The government is taking over from the poor and is selling them for ₹100 crore an acre,” Kodanda Reddy said.

The merger of RTC with the government has been made with an eye on elections now after repeatedly denying it, he added.
