Security concerns grow as visitors flock Hyderabad airport
HYDERABAD: The rising number of visitors to RGIA to see off or receive their friends or relatives is coming across as a major security concern besides causing inconvenience to other passengers leading to congestion.
While CISF is sensitising crowds on the security situation, airport officials have been urging flyers to restrict their visitors. Meanwhile, ahead of the Independence Day, and the situation in other parts of the country, a high alert has been sounded at RIGA.
Another concern is with regard to carrying a restricted number of items in the check in baggage. Many passengers get into arguments with the security and airport staff when asked to remove the excess luggage. This is leading to delays in the check in process.
Now that elections are round the corner, many politicians are frequently taking flights. The nuisance comes in the form of their followers coming in large numbers and in a convoy. As checking each and every one of them is not possible, the threat perception looms large and if uncontrolled, it could lead to a stampede.
The airport’s advisory has stated that due to the annual rush of students going abroad for studies, a corresponding increase in visitors and vehicles is leading to congestion on the access road and ramps.
“We solicit the cooperation of passengers to self-restrict the number of visitors and vehicles, as the airport is on a high security alert for Independence Day,” said the airport.
Meanwhile, responding to a query chief airport security officer D. Shyamala told Deccan Chronicle that they have been sensitising people to avoid coming to the airport with big crowds.
“As the airport is a vital installation in terms of security, we appeal to the people and politicians, in particular, to avoid crowding at the airport,” she said.
