Metropolis group aims to expand
Chennai: The Metropolis chain of diagnostic labs with 130 laboratories and over 1,000 collection centres across India plans to expand its collection centres in 10 locations across Chennai which would be operational from next year.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Ameera Shah, the managing director of Metropolis India, said, “Metropolis has been capitalizing on areas with no or limited access to good healthcare facilities and so our focus areas have been across India, Middle East and Africa, and in that direction, the chain will expand further across India.”
Ten new locations including Egmore, Padi, Chetpet, Thousand lights, Chintadripet, Saidapet will see the new collection centers come up.
Since 2001, Ameera, who established the chain in India and globally, was trying to draw a balance between medicine and business, gave rise to Metropolis, which has become one of the well-known brands of diagnostic centres.
“Over 90 per cent of the healthcare sector in India is unregulated. While in places like America where healthcare is accessible like a right, we still have a long way to go,” she added.
Speaking about changes in attitude of people towards healthcare, she said that people are now more aware of a brand in the way that it signifies good quality and service.
“Digital reports with the advent of time are becoming relevant and important. There are many more tests that are coming into play for conditions that weren’t being detected earlier,” she continued.
