AIIMS Mangalagiri celebrates Chandrayaan Mahotsav

Vijayawada: AIIMS Mangalagiri commemorated the ‘Chandrayaan Mahotsav’ in honour of Chandrayaan 3’s historic soft landing on the Lunar South Pole, paying tribute to the dedication of Isro scientists. Prof. Sudhanshu Sekhar Mohapatra, dean and chief instructor at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine in Bengaluru, emphasised that this achievement not only has significant scientific implications but also has the potential to inspire young minds to pursue careers in space exploration and science.

As part of the festivities, Prof. Sudhanshu Sekhar Mohapatra delivered a lecture on ‘Aerospace Medicine — Opportunities, Challenges & Future Prospects’ for MBBS students. He highlighted India’s emergence as a global leader in scientific research and encouraged students to cultivate scientific and logical thinking, which would benefit both their careers and society as a whole.

The event showcased past milestones in space research by Isro, featuring a kiosk with a replica of a rocket launch. The nursing staff created a Rangoli depicting the historic soft landing of the Vikram Lander. Additionally, a recording of the moon's soft landing was broadcasted, accompanied by a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. MBBS and BSc Nursing students showcased their patriotic spirit through various cultural activities.

Prof. Mukesh Tripathi, director and CEO of AIIMS Mangalagiri, praised the accomplishments of Isro scientists, noting that "the successful indigenous development of technology and innovations in space missions like Chandrayaan-3 paves the way for medical research in areas such as remote sensing & control, automation & Artificial Intelligence, etc."

The occasion was graced by dean (Academics) Dr. Shreemantha Kumar Dash, dean (Research) Dr. Deepti Vepakomma, dean (Examinations) Dr. Desu Rama Mohan, medical superintendent Dr. Vineeth Thomas Abraham, deputy director (Admin.) Col. Shashikanth and principal of the College of Nursing Dr. Dhanasu R. Faculty, interns, MBBS, and BSc Nursing students were in attendance.
