Parl. committee visits TS, protesting advocates submit memo against shift
Hyderabad: The parliamentary standing committee on personnel, public grievances, and law and justice, led by Sushil Kumar Modi and comprising MPs from both Houses, visited the Telangana High Court on Tuesday to examine, assess, and learn about infrastructure grievances.
The committee faced heat from a section of advocates, who staged a protest over the recent decision by the Telangana government to shift the High Court from Jhansi Bazar to Rajender Nagar.
Advocates submitted a representation to the committee, requesting them to advise the Telangana High Court and the Telangana government that the infrastructure at the High Court was sufficient to meet their needs, barring the need for a multi-car parking complex.
They said that the shift, which would cost Rs 800 crore to Rs 1,000 crore, could be used for improving the infrastructure of lower courts.
High Court Parirakshana Samiti member Sharada, an advocate, complained that some parties were interested in the shift for personal gain and that they did not consult practising advocates.
Members of the Telangana High Court Advocates Association, including President Palle Nageshwar Rao, vice president Kalyan Rao, secretary Devendar Puli and senior executive member Krishna Kumar Goud Naguluri, requested the committee to set up a Supreme Court bench in the state.
Later, the committee held meetings with Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and other judges.
