Women Enjoy Numaish on Ladies Day

Hyderabad: In a kaleidoscope of colours and laughter, the 83rd edition of the All India Industrial Exhibition (AIIE), popularly known as Numaish, transformed into a haven for women of all walks of life on its cherished Ladies Day.

The tradition, dating to 1940, continued to flourish as thousands of women, accompanied by children, student groups and friends, flocked to the Exhibition Ground in Nampally in the annual celebration of femininity.

Although all Tuesdays were previously women-only days at the Numaish, the practice was dropped due to a dip in number of visitors.

The atmosphere was electric as early as 5 pm, with women visitors enjoying the various rides.

Stall owners said that those selling jewellery, clothing and hosiery experienced a surge in customers, while shops specialising in watches and the ‘Wall of Death’ clocking lesser-than-usual footfalls.

All across, excited women posed for pictures, indulged in delicious treats at food stalls, and shopped enthusiastically.

Outside the venue, fathers, sons, brothers, and friends patiently waited, either to pick up or drop off their loved ones. Some women chose to embark on this adventure alone and took public transport, to embody their independence and freedom.

Nidhi Talla, a visitor, said she felt safer and uninhibited due to the lack of the male gaze. “It's incredible to be here without any inhibitions, just enjoying the day with fellow women,” she said.

Kulsom F., another visitor, said, “At one stall, I even saw women take each other's opinions on what to buy; it's like a collective celebration of choices and empowerment.”
