GHMC honours Swachh warriors for their efforts
HYDERABAD: Officials and workers of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation had a gala time on Wednesday at the office headquarters, with a slew of events organised on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Women workers participated in several sports events, with winners taking home interesting prizes. Several sanitation workers were also honoured for their relentless and exemplary work.
City mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, deputy mayor Mote Srilata Shobhan Reddy, additional commissioners Vijayalakshmi and U.C.D. Saujanya, joint commissioners Uma Prakash and Shashirekha, zonal commissioner Mamata, secretary Lakshmi, deputy commissioner Manga Mana, senior women officers, employees and sanitary workers participated in the programmes.
Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi said that women have more patience and endurance and called on women to “not back down in the pursuit of their goals and move forward till they reach it, no matter how many obstacles they encounter.”
She credited Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for many women-oriented welfare schemes, such as Kalyana Lakshmi, Shaadi Mubarak, nutrition kits and Aasara Pensions etc
Vijayalakshmi also lauded the work of women officials and assured swift action in any instance of workplace harassment. She also reminded them to reach out to the SHE teams over such issues.
On the day, one woman worker from each of the 30 GHMC circles was awarded the 'Best Worker' prize. They were: Nalukalla Gowramma, M. Laxmi, E. Buchamma, P. Yadamma, K. Indra, Shankaramma, Shamalamma, B. Ramulamma, C. Sharadha, Ashajyothi, Anasuya,
Kasamma Sone, N. Sharadha, G. Laxmi, T.Laxmi, L. Laxmi, G. Laxmi, Balaamma, G. Hemavathi, B. Lakshmi, K. Padma, Chandrakala, B. Shivamma, A. Kalamma, R. Manisha, G. Laxmi, Buchamma, S. Suguna, B. Kala and Y. Sharada.
The mayor said that women sanitary workers play an important role in keeping the city of Hyderabad clean. She said that the GHMC was taking several precautions towards bettering the health of women sanitation workers and encouraged them to make the most of the medical camps.
The deputy and zonal commissioners too encouraged their fellow workers to work hand-in-hand for a better Hyderabad.
