PANCHAMRIT: CEC call to follow National Climate Change targets
VIJAYAWADA: Central Information Commissioner Heeralal Samariya has emphasized the urgent need to combat Climate Change and suggested that Andhra Pradesh and all other states scale up their energy efficiency endeavours.
The targets can be achieved through accelerated adoption of global energy efficient and low-carbon technologies that would ultimately contribute towards the National Climate Change targets (Panchamrit) -- of reducing one billion tonnes of carbon emissions by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2070.
Andhra Pradesh state energy conservation mission (APSECM) and energy department officials interacted with Heeralal Samariya in New Delhi on Wednesday. The CIC has a vast experience in the power sector of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.
Heeralal Samariya said the Concept of Panchamrit (Climate Change goals of the Nation) announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in COP-26 has made India a special nation in the world, because of its strong commitment to address climate change.
He stated, “The Panchamrit is like an Amrit for future generations, for sustainability of energy and natural resources. To achieve the Panchamrit goals, there is a significant need to enhance energy efficiency in multifold ways as it would contribute to addressing the problem of climate change by 50 per cent.”
Heeralal Samariya said the central information commission will fully support the noble cause of energy conservation.
