E-classrooms for sharing medical education in Jipmer soon
Puducherry: Jawaharlal Institute of Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) proposes to set up e-classrooms for sharing medical education with other medical colleges of the country.
The e-classrooms are being developed as part of activity of National Medical College Network (NMCN) Project of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), government of India, available in Jipmer since 2015.
“Many students who are not able to get admission in Jipmer remain cut off from high integrated medical education being given to students here. With setting up of such e-Classrooms the medical knowledge will easily be made available to all the medical students across the country,” said Vishnu Bhatt, the newly appointed director of Jipmer in a statement here.
Being a Regional Resource Centre (RRC) for South India for Telemedicine, Jipmer is fully equipped with state of art technology including National Knowledge Network (NKN) high bandwidth internet connectivity supplied by National Informatics Centre (NIC) Puducherry.
The National Medical College Network (NMCN) project has been envisaged to interlink all medical colleges of the country with high speed optic fibre backbone from National Knowledge Network (NKN).
The prime objective of the project is to create a standard and cohesive environment for medical education by deployment of advanced Information and Communication Technology Systems for Tele-education, knowledge sharing, Continuous Medical Education (CME), and capacity building for students, doctors, medical experts, and citizens.
Under this project, a high definition videoconferencing systems-based setup with audio and visual, control system and other accessories are provided, a Jipmer statement said.
A lecture theatre having 150-200 PAX capacity with proper acoustics, lighting suitable for video conferencing system, air conditioning facility, furniture for seating arrangements is required and has been identified in Jipmer campus. Jipmer is the first government medical institution in south India to develop such e-Classroom under NMCN Project of government of India.
Jipmer has been recently ranked number six among medical institutions in India by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for 2018.
