People lose water supply for a fortnight in Old City
Hyderabad: The residents of Falaknuma in the Old City were deprived of water in the last fortnight at a stretch. As a result, the local people were forced to depend on bore wells for their water requirements.
“For drinking and cooking purpose, we were buying water containers in the last fortnight. Water was supplied every alternate day in the evening for two hours,” complained Haji Akram Ali, a local resident.
A few persons complained that as the water was not adequately supplied for the last 15 days, they were forced to borrow water from neighbours who had borewells in their houses.
Close to 15,000 families were affected due to the problem that continued even after the local Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) officials were informed, they complained.
K. Thara Bai, corporator, Falaknuma said that the problem has been there for long despite best efforts to redress it. “We have urged HMWS&SB to connect the water supply lines to an overhead tank constructed recently,” she said. “At times, people are forced to use water pumps to draw water from the taps. The low pressure water supply has been continuing for the last four months and officials are caring little to redress the problems,” said Rafeeq Ahmed, another local.
AIMIM local Jangammet corporator Abdul Rahman pointed out that after the local people brought the issue to his notice, he had informed the officials concerned about it.
P.J. David Raj, DGM(E), SD-III, Balapur said that the local people have not brought the issue to his notice so far. “If anyone brings the problem to my notice, I will take measures to minimise the issue,” he pointed out.
