BRS will protect steel plant: Chandrasekhar
VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh BRS president Thota Chandrasekhar said his party would protect the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) from privatisation by joining the local agitation. He said the party would support the relay hunger strike and will chalk out a future action plan to agitate along with them.
Party working president and Telangana minister K.T. Rama Rao had recently spoken against the Centre’s attempt to privatise the VSP
Earlier, Chandrasekhar was accorded a warm welcome on his arrival here on Saturday. He was taken in a rally from the airport to the venue, VMRDA Children's Arena, where he addressed a public meeting.
He said both the ruling and the opposition parties in the state were going along with the BJP. They don’t have the courage to question Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said the VSP was built following the sacrifices of the Telugu people and 32 people lost their lives in the agitation. He said BRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had become the focal point for “opposing the autocracy of the Union government,” which had among others been planning to entrust corporate houses with many public sector undertakings including the VSP.
Chandrasekhar said he would meet the trade union leaders agitating against the privatisation of the VSP on April 10 and discuss the next course of action.
