Telangana HC lawyer calls for talks to restore order in Manipur

HYDERABAD: Sudhir Chatalla, a city-based High Court advocate from the Christian Advocate Forum of India, has called upon the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Minority Commission in New Delhi to strive for peace in strife-torn Manipur by having a dialogue with leaders of both warring sects and involve NGOs in the discussions.

Chatalla said that on May 3, the Manipur High Court had directed the government to extend constitutional Scheduled Caste reservations, now applicable only to the Kuki tribes, to the majority Meitei community as well. Many people have been burnt alive, millions rendered homeless and over 250 churches burnt after violence broke out in the state, he said.
