Festival of umbrella observed at Tirumala

Chatrasthapanotsavam is the traditional Umbrella Festival, wherein a new umbrella will be erected at the Narayanagiri Hills

TIRUPATI: The annual festival of Chatrasthapanotsavam was observed with religious fervour in the hill town of Tirumala by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Tuesday.

Chatrasthapanotsavam is the traditional Umbrella Festival, wherein a new umbrella will be erected at the Narayanagiri Hills, which is believed to be the highest peak of Seven Hills in Tirumala. It is here that Lord Venkateswara Swamy is believed to have laid his first step on this holy mountain. Hence the place is revered as Srivari Padalu and it attracts lots of pilgrims every day.

TTD observes the Chatrasthapanotsavam festival every year and special pujas are performed on the occasion. After performing puja to the sacred foot prints of the Lord on Tuesday morning, a new umbrella was erected here amidst chanting of veda mantras by temple priests.

Meanwhile, as part of the three-day annual Pavitrotsavams, on the second day on Tuesday, Pavitra Samarpana was held with religious fervour at Srivari temple in Tirumala.

Earlier during the day, Snapana Tirumanjanam was held to utsava deities of Lord Malayappa and his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi. Later, Pavitra malas were decorated to other Parivara Devatas apart from prime deities.
