Diamond merchant's son gets life lesson as waiter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A billionaire’s son hiding his identity and pursuing menial jobs to learn life lesson might sound like a very romanticised idea. However, staffers and owners of a Street Cafe near Pulimoodu got the shock of their life when one of their waiters returned from his hometown at Surat to gift valuables worth Rs 3 lakhs. He revealed to them that he was Druv Dholakia whose family owned the renowned SRK Diamond group.
Earlier, his relative Dravya Dholakia also had hit the headlines last year after working undercover at a Halwa shop in Kochi. This apparently has become a tradition in the family now to teach a life lesson to the young ones. “Druv came to us pleading for a job a month ago. Since, we had no vacancies we turned him down. But based on a friend’s recommendation we took him. He worked here as a bearer for a week. Since, he was preferred by customers we also gave him charge of the entertainment section,” said Jithin Lal, who co-owns the firm. Druv went home claiming his granny was sick. On August 29, men in three high end cars stopped before the restaurant.
The manager and shopkeepers were gifted between Rs 20,000 and Rs 5,000 apart from diamond jewellery, luxury watches and pens. “He told us that the family sends young ones to unknown cities for a month. In this, case, he was given Rs 10,000 and he chose Kerala. Yet another teenager from this family was said to be working undercover in Andhra Pradesh,” said Mr Lal. Mr Dholakia, a business studies student at London, was not available for comment as he was at the Hongkong Jewellery and Gem fair.
