Mad rush at Odisha bank after money gets credited from unknown source' in accounts

Not only the customers, but the bank authorities are in a quandary regarding the deposits in customers' accounts

BHUBANESWAR: Strange as it may sound. A mad rush was on Thursday witnessed at Odisha Kalinga Gramya Bank at Batipada in Kendrapara district after money was credited to the bank accounts of several customers from some ‘unknown sources,’ reports said on Friday.

The bank customers started thronging after they received messages on their mobile phones regarding credit of amounts ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 70,000. Many customers reached the bank to inquire who deposited the money into their accounts while others were seen withdrawing cash from their accounts.

“I came to the bank after knowing that some amount has been credited into my account and other people. I don’t know who sent the money. As others withdrew Rs 10,000, I also came to withdraw the money,” said Minati Sahu, a customer.

Not only the customers, but the bank authorities are in a quandary regarding the deposits in customers’ accounts.

Branch Manager, Pratap Pradhan said, “Since morning on Thursday, some of our customers started receiving money ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 30,000. It is not clear from which source it has been deposited in the bank accounts. We found that some money has been credited from Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima. How it happened, we have no idea.”

According to Pradhan, around 200 to 250 people had come to the branch to withdraw money. “I had seen some customers even having a credit of Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000. We have no idea about the credit of money and we are verifying it,” Pradhan added.
