Will intensify agitation for Tribal University: Seethakka

HYDERABAD: The Centre and state government must stop the drama over the establishment of Tribal University, said All India Congress Committee’s women’s wing secretary and Mulugu MLA Danasari Anasuya a.k.a. Seethakka. Even after allotment of land, both TRS and BJP governments are intentionally delaying the university’s establishment, she alleged. Seethakka was speaking at a meeting held at the MLA camp office in Mulugu district on Wednesday.

She said that Congress leaders, along with the various peoples’ organisations, are going to take up a protest rally on November 12 from Gattam temple to the district headquarters and intensify agitation for establishment of the university in Mulugu district.

Although it has been eight years since the formation of Telangana state, the Centre, which granted permission to establish a university, failed to take up any works pertaining to this till date. Tribal youth, who aspire for higher education, are disappointed at the injustice meted out to them, Seethakka said.

“If a university is set up, Mulugu district, currently a tourist hub, will also become an education hub. Last month, a representation was submitted to Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, as well as state and Union ministers, urging them to take necessary steps to expedite works,” the Mulugu MLA said.

While a Tribal University has already been established and classes have commenced in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, no works have started in Telangana, despite an announcement by Union minister G. Kishan Reddy regarding allocation of Rs 800 crore towards setting up the university, she stated.

Acquisition of around 335 acres of land was completed in Prem Nagar Colony near the district headquarters, and the same was handed over to the tribal welfare department last year. However, the state government as well as the Centre are passing the buck, blaming each other and cheating the tribals, she claimed.

Congress leaders N. Kumara Swamy, G. Rajendar, M. Bikshapathi, B. Ravichander, K. Ravi, B. Bhagavan Reddy, Md. Chandpasha, A. Chandramouli, B. Srinivas, R. Kalyani and Devsingh were among those present at the meeting.
