Armed Personnel Deployed at Checkposts Decry Poor Amenities
Hyderabad: While officials are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a peaceful election, armed personnel deployed for election bandobast are facing issues at checkposts and at the accommodation centres provided for them. Even the local police deputed at checkposts have complained of lack of proper facilities.
A soldier deployed at a checkpost in Hyderabad told Deccan Chronicle that the accommodation centre provided to them only has a good drinking water facility. “Taking a bath is the most difficult task for us here,” he said.
Another jawan, deployed in Rangareddy district, said that their accommodation centre is full of mosquitoes. The garbage dumps in the vicinity stink and pose a major health hazard, he said.
Some checkposts are provided with packaged drinking water, coolers and pedestal fans, but many others do not have any of these facilities.
“The biggest issue pertains to toilets. We are dependent on the open areas near the checkposts if any are available or we have to request nearby shops or commercial spaces to use their spaces,” said an ASI at a checkpost in Medchal Malkajgiri district.
Another issue faced at some places, particularly during nights, is the non-availability of reflector jackets and traffic baton lights.
“Though the checkposts are well illuminated, availability of reflector jackets and batons would help the commuters to know about vehicle checks,” said another officer.
Meanwhile, senior officials in the department said that they are ensuring that the forces are provided with all amenities. In places that need improvements, they will address all shortcomings, they said.
