India's Champion Bull Arrives in City for Sadar Utsav

Hyderabad: Diwali brings with it the ‘Sadar Utsav’, a festival of bulls, in which India’s tallest bull Sri Krishna will take part.

Weighing 1,900 kilograms, five-and-a-half-year-old Sri Krishna is 6.6 feet tall and has a girth of 10 feet. Krishna has 25 all-India champion titles in events held in its native Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Sadar Utsav is a major festival for the Yadav community, wherein families display their healthiest bulls. This event gained much fanfare over the past decades, with owners of famous bulls across India making sure to participate in the Sadar contest. These bulls are transported in air-conditioned specially-designed containers, with exorbitant amounts spent on their maintenance.

Krishna has been a regular participant in the Sadar procession, organised by Edla Hari Babu Yadav. It followed in the footsteps of Yuvraj, the first champion bull to take part in the event.

The owner of the bull, Rahul Rao of Jind in Haryana, said that he earns around Rs 5 lakh per month by putting him out to stud, and that most of it is spent on food, which ranges from apples, carrots and bananas to ghee and cotton cake. Besides, Krishna also gets massages with mustard oil, the owner said.

Rahul Rao also owned Yuvraj, besides other famous bulls, including Shahansha, King and Dara.

Abhinandhan Yadav, the bull’s handler, said: “This bull will be a highlight at this year’s Sadar, as the elections are also around. Many political leaders will be visiting the event.”
