MP: Muslim Woman Thrashed by Kin for Voting for BJP, Case Registered
Bhopal: A Muslim woman in Sehore district in Madhya Pradesh was allegedly thrashed by her kin for ‘voting for BJP’ in the November 17 assembly elections, police said on Saturday.
The alleged victim Samina B (30), a resident of Barkheda Hassan village in the district, lodged a complaint in the local police station in connection with the incident, police said.
The incident took place on December four, a day after results of assembly elections held in four states including Madhya Pradesh, were announced, the complaint said.
A case was registered under sections 294 (use of obscene words in public), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (criminal act done in furtherance of common intention) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused in the case on Friday, police said.
“We received the complaint and arrests have been made in the case”, Sehore district superintendent of police Mayank Awasthi said.
The victim alleged that her brother-in-law Javed Khan hurled abuses at her when she was celebrating the landslide victory of BJP in the MP assembly polls on December four along with some of her family members.
The accused thrashed her with a stick when she objected to it, leading to injuries in her hands and other parts of her body, she alleged.
On Friday, the state unit president of National Pasmanda Muslim Federation Naushad Khan accompanied her to the district magistrate of Sehore seeking strict action against the accused in the case.
