Fungus-riddled laddus seized at Bhadrachalam temple

Hyderabad: The Bhadrachalam Police on Monday seized laddus, found to contain fungi, from the Sri Ramchandra Swamy temple in Bhadrachalam after a check by food inspectors on complaints filed by devotees who purchased the prasadam.

Temple executive officer B. Sivaji said that they had prepared 2 lakh laddus for devotees for Vaikunta Ekadasi on January 2. “But, there was not much rush at the temple and laddus have been kept for sale since January 2,” he said, adding that while devotees had levelled allegations, he had not received any complaint.

Following the police visit, the temple staff staged a protest, alleging that the cops had entered the premises wearing shoes and demanded an unconditional apology. The police refused to comment on the claim.
