Sridhar: Global AI Meet in Hyd Likely

Hyderabad: IT minister D. Sridhar Babu told IT industry representatives on Tuesday that the government was planning to host the Global AI summit with an aim to make Hyderabad an artificial intelligence hub. The government will invite top technology professionals for the summit. The goal is to generate AI beyond generic AI.

Sridhar Babu announced plans to treat the final year of the degree course as an R&D year. The syllabus is being developed based on technological advancements, skills, and knowledge. This will add value to graduates, not just as job seekers but also as job creators.

These are part of the government’s plan to give further impetus to the information technology (IT) landscape and implement a multi-pronged strategy to make the sector globally competitive.

The government will focus on investment in infrastructure, skill development, research and development, global collaborations, policy reforms and start-up eco-system, and by taking IT to smaller cities by setting up incubators in rural areas.

Sridhar Babu said the government would focus more on emerging areas like digital transformation, cybersecurity, AI and machine learning, 5G technology, remote work technology and sustainability.

The government would also facilitate innovation and fortify an ecosystem that propels development of next-generation products and novel business models. It would extend the establishment of incubators to cover rural areas.

Industry representatives including Raghu Boddupally (Infosys), Arijit Sarker (Google), Murali Bukkapatnam (TIE), B.V.R. Mohan Reddy (Cyient), Rajanna V. (TCS), Sridhar Muppidi (Purple Talk), Amarnath Reddy Atmakuri (CRO) attended the meeting.

Representatives of industry bodies Telangana, VFX Animation and Gaming Association, Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association, Nasscom, STPI and others were present at the meeting held at Infosys Gachibowli campus.
