Nirmala seeks IMF support on food security
New Delhi: Stressing the need to ensure food and energy security for all, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday asked the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for support to India’s G20 presidency by sharing detailed technical analysis to develop evidence-based policy guidance on the issue.
She also urged the IMF for a multi-lateral funding agency to develop a globally coordinated approach to regulate crypto assets.
In a meeting with IMF managing director (MD) Kristalina Georgieva in a video conference, she also informed Georgieva that the debt issues will be at the forefront of the G20 Finance Track — an upcoming G20 Finance Ministers and central bank governors meeting, which is scheduled to be held in Bengaluru this month.
She also informed Georgieva about India’s role in digitalisation of the economy, especially through digital payments.
