Literary critic Professor M Achuthan passes away
KOCHI: Professor M. Achuthan, well-known literary critic and writer, died at a private in hospital in Kochi on Sunday. He was 86. Born at Vadama in Thrissur district in 1930, he completed MA in Malayalam with gold medal from Madras University. Prof Achuthan served as a lecturer in many government colleges before retiring from Maharajas College in Ernakulam.
He is survived by wife P.S. Radha who is the daughter of poet emeritus G. Sankara Kurup, and daughters former Kochi deputy mayor B. Bhadra, Dr. Nandini Nair and Dr. Nirmala Pillai. Prof. Achuthan was also the secretary of the Guruvayoorappan Trust, the promoter of Odakuzhal Award for literature. He was also the president of Samastha Kerala Sahithya Parishad from 1996. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan visited the house to pay respects to Prof. Achuthan. He also consoled the family members of the late professor.
