BJP MLA holds party without social distancing, then speaks about corona care

Supporters of the Karnataka legislator huddled together for a biryani meal and were promised supply of face masks

Tumakuru: Paying no head to social distancing, a Karnataka BJP MLA celebrated his birthday in his native village on Friday in the presence of a large number of followers, who jostled for the biryani served. There were several children in the gathering.

Ironically, the MLA delivered a speech to the gathering, telling them how important it was to beat back the coronavirus.

Masale Jayaram represents the Turuvekere Assembly constituency in Tumakuru district, the very district where a Covid-19 positive person died last week.

The MLA’s party at Idagoor village in Gubbi taluk was attended by dozens of his supporters. They wore no masks and huddled close as he cut a birthday cake. Some of his closer supporters huddled up to feed him the cake and pose for pictures.

Later, the villagers were served biryani in the courtyard of a building, and they ate in small groups. Over the din, the minister spoke of containing the coronavirus. Masale Jayaram asked the villagers to maintain social distancing when they go to shop for essential commodities.

“We do not know how the virus spreads. Social distancing is vital,” he added. “Please wash your hands regularly with warn water.”

Masale Jayaram said he would distribute face masks in the village and asked the villagers to pass on information on how to contain the COVID-19 virus.
