Jagan: Step up COVID-19 testing

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the health authorities to equip every village health clinic with testing kits and required medicines to curb a fresh spread of Coronavirus in the state.

The CM reviewed the Covid-19 situation in the state with health minister Vidadala Rajini and senior officials at his camp office here on Monday.

Jagan Mohan Reddy underlined the importance of the newly launched ‘Family Doctor’ programme and village health clinics in providing healthcare to those infected with the Coronavirus. He called for a fever survey in the villages and prompt treatment to the affected.

He said there was a need to procure medicines to deal with the sub-variants of Coronavirus and to equip labs to detect such variants.

Health officials informed the CM that the spread of Coronavirus in the state was under control and there was no need for any major concern on its spread.

They said the village health clinics were equipped to conduct rapid tests. In case of a need for further examination, the samples would be sent for conduct of RT-PCR tests. In the state-wide fever survey so far, only 25 persons were hospitalised with such symptoms.

The officials informed the CM that they were keeping track of the oxygen supply lines, PSA plants and availability of oxygen cylinders and oxygen concentrators. They are making arrangements at the airports to collect samples of international passengers to conduct Covid-19 test.

The CM also reviewed the progress of works on the new government medical colleges and said the works should be speeded up. Officials said works at medical colleges in Vizianagaram, Machilipatnam, Rajamahendravaram, Eluru and Nandyal were going on as per schedule while the works in other colleges would be expedited.

They said the kidney speciality hospital in Palasa, the Cancer Institute in Kurnool and the GGH super speciality and cancer wings at Kadapa would be ready in a few days.
